Born and raised in Hampshire, England, I am a multimedia artist working across video, installation, textiles and more.
Much of my work embodies an exploration of disability through making myself vulnerable, exploring how my body copes in an unaccepting world. At 18 months I had meningitis leaving me with profound hearing loss, processing challenges and other invisible disabilities. Growing up in a specialist school for the deaf, I never understood the challenges I faced in an ableist society. Now, through my art I force dialogue between art and ‘ability’. My aim is to create the feeling of inclusivity for those who feel excluded, helping them to feel seen and to challenge ableism in daily life.
I love and get solace from creativity in all its forms. I have a passion for growing vegetables, especially tomatoes of which I have nine varieties! I spend much of my time crocheting and recently bought a small spinning wheel and am learning to card, spin and knit from raw wool. I can lose myself in fantasy fiction and have been known to attempt to write a little myself. The world of story telling is fascinating for me. How do you spin a good yarn?
